How to Cite Print Sources 

This information is based on A Writer's Reference by Diana Hacker (4th Edition, 1999)


Citations from print books should include (give as many of the following elements that apply and are available):
  • author's name
  • article title, in quotation marks
  • publication title, underlined
  • publication data

You should type each element of your citation in the exact order as it is listed above.

Citations from print periodical materials should include (give as many of the following elements that apply and are

  • Author's name

  • Date and page numbers, separated by a colon
