St. Mark's School of Texas
Choir Trip

Since 1986, the participants of the Choir trip have had a multitude of educational experiences. A significant feature of these trips, in addition to allowing choristers to experience singing and at times living in historic places of worship of the Anglican church, is to gain knowledge of the traditional music from America. The trips have generated two cassette tapes and two compact discs, all of which are not commercial enterprises but rather musical souvenirs of the trips during which they were recorded. The Choir trip is a school-sponsored trip directed by Mr. Jim Livengood, Choir Director.

In the summer of 1986, the Choir completed their first three-week tour of England, singing in the cathedrals in Gloucester, Norwich, and Canterbury. A second tour in 1988 saw a week at Westminster Abbey, singing in residence and at St. George's Cathedral in Windsor. In 1990, the Choir spent a week at St. Mary's Cathedral, Edinburgh, and at York Minster. In 1992, the Choir traveled to Worcester Cathedral and sang Evensong at Salisbury Cathedral, then went to St. Paul's in London. In 1994, they traveled across the channel to France, staying in a chateau in the Loire Valley to rehearse, and sang mass at Notre Dame, Paris, and in the abbey at Mont St.Michel, concluding with a week at York Minster. The choir furthered their exposure in 1996, training at Bruern Abbey in the Cotswolds, then continued with a week at Wells Cathedral and finalized their tour with a short week at St. David's Cathedral in Wales. In 1998, a week was spent in residence at Durham Cathedral, living in the Castle, and then returned to Westminster Abbey for three days in London. In the year 2000, the Choir continued their travel to Exeter and then to Norwich, with a week in Ireland.
