DECATHLON-HEPTATHLON COMPETITION / CLINIC June 6-7, 2009

We will be conducting a decathlon / heptathlon clinic and competition that is open to anyone
with or without experience in any or all of the events. The event is sponsored by USATF and the
Southwestern Association in an effort to: 1) discover and develop "combined-event" talent in
Texas and the throughout the United States, and 2) provide a competition for elite/emerging elite
college level athletes.

Since 1996, Texas has produced some of the top junior decathletes/heptatletes in the United States.
The list includes Kendra Reimer (High School Record Holder), Loren Leaverton (3 time All-American),
Jamie Walker (Jr. National Champion), Jodi Anderson (Jr. National Champion), Diana Pickler
(Jr. National Champion), Lauren Reimer (All-American), Julie Pickler (Jr. NationalChampion),
Kristal Walton (All-American), Barrett Havran (All-American), Rashad Stafford, Jordan Mumford
(Junior Olympic Champion), Chad Andrews (All American), Adam Fretwell (Former State Record Holder),
and Shawn Schmidt (Junior National Champion & Texas State Record Holder).
These are just a few of the most recent athletes that have excelled in the combined-events and
are now competing at the college level and beyond.

As stated earlier, this competition is an official qualifying meet. We want athletes
that are trying to qualify for the Junior and Senior Nationals or Olympic Trials, or are just starting
out and haven't done some/most of the events. We have assembled an outstanding
group of coaches to instruct and guide the athletes throughout the two days of clinic and
competition.

We have added a new division for elite Decathletes and Heptathletes that can compete in
all/some of the events to improve their score or to work on selected events in preparation for
the Senior Nationals. If this field becomes large enough, we will create a seperate competition
for them.

On this web page, you will find all the information that you need: pictures and short bio's on
the coaches, cost, times, location, hotel information, and equipment needs. You will also find
an information / application sheet that is required. Complete the form on your computer, print
it and mail it in as your entry form. Coaches are encouraged to attend (at no cost) and actively
participate in all of the activities. The deadline for applications for both athletes and coaches
is Monday, June 1, 2009.
